Artemis Acupuncture Acupuncture - Your Path to Wellness

Artemis Acupuncture Acupuncture - Your Path to Wellness

Acupuncturist placing needles in a patient.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing that's over 2500 years old. Traditional Chinese Medicine views the body as a network of 12 meridians that start in the fingers and toes and each end in a vital organ. There are over 400 acupuncture points the influence both the energy or qi flow in the channel and the organ function itself.

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to promote health and alleviate symptoms. Here's what you can generally expect from an acupuncture treatment session:

  1. Consultation: At the beginning of your first session, we will conduct a thorough consultation to understand your medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and any specific concerns you have. This helps us tailor the treatment to your individual needs.
  2.  Assessment: A physical examination, which can include checking your pulse, examining your tongue, and palpating specific areas of your body to identify areas of imbalance or tension.
  3.  Treatment Plan: Based on the consultation and assessment, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to your condition and goals. This plan may involve a series of acupuncture sessions spread out over time.
  4. Needle Insertion: During the treatment session, you will lie down comfortably on a treatment table. The acupuncturist will insert thin, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on your body. The number of needles used and their placement will depend on your individual condition and the treatment plan.
  5. Needle Sensation: You may feel a slight sensation when the needles are inserted, which can range from a tingling or dull ache to a feeling of heaviness or warmth. Any discomfort will disperse within 3 seconds. Most people find acupuncture to be a relaxing and comfortable experience.
  6. Needle Retention: After the needles are inserted, they are typically left in place for around 15 to 30 minutes, while you relax. During this time, you may experience a deep sense of relation or even fall asleep.
  7. Needle Removal: After the retention period, the acupuncturist will carefully remove the needles. You may feel a slight sensation as the needles are taken out, but it's generally painless.
  8. Follow-up and Home Care: After the session, the acupuncturist may provide recommendations for self-care or lifestyle modifications to support your treatment goals. They may also schedule follow-up appointments as needed to monitor your progress and adjust the treatment plan.

It's import ant to note that acupuncture is often used as part of a holistic approach to to health and wellness, and it may be combined with other therapies such as herbal medicine, dietary changes, or lifestyle modifications for optimal results. Additionally, individual experiences with acupuncture can vary, so it's essential to communicate openly with your acupuncturist about your experience and any concerns you may have.
